Mattia Fazio
iOS engineer from Milan. I build players, SDKs, and apps that ship.
About
I'm a senior iOS engineer based in Milan, working remote. I've spent years in video streaming on Apple platforms, deep inside AVFoundation, AVPlayer, HLS and FairPlay DRM, and keeping SDKs honest across teams and platforms. But I'm not just a player guy: I'm happy anywhere on an iOS codebase, from early architecture decisions to the last build before launch. I care a lot about clean architecture, SOLID, developer experience, and docs that someone can actually read on a Monday morning. I've led chapters and managed teams, and I've learned I'm better with my hands on the keyboard. I like working with startups and sports teams; big-corporate energy isn't for me.
What I do
Video & streaming on iOS
AVFoundation, AVPlayer, HLS, FairPlay DRM. I build and fix native video stacks that have to work on every iPhone, not just the one on your desk.
App architecture & SDKs
Swift Packages, plugin systems, clean module boundaries. I design SDKs that other engineers actually enjoy integrating, with docs that answer the obvious questions upfront.
End-to-end iOS apps
From a blank Xcode project to the App Store. Product thinking, native UI, testing, release pipelines — the full round trip, done calmly.
Tech leadership on demand
Code reviews, architecture calls, chapter coaching, hiring loops. Senior backup for your team when you need another experienced head in the room, without a full-time hire.
Projects
Video Player SDK
iOS SDK engineerNative iOS video player SDK as a Swift Package, with a plugin system.
Designed and built a native iOS video player SDK, shipped as a Swift Package with a plugin system so each integrator can bolt on only what they need. Covered the full streaming path: AVPlayer wiring, HLS playback, FairPlay DRM, and the kind of edge cases you only find in production. Focused hard on a clean public API and docs that let a new team integrate without a kickoff call. TODO(mattia): client/context, year, impact numbers.
StreetHoop
Mobile engineerCommunity app for pickup basketball, built in Flutter.
StreetHoop is a community app for pickup basketball — find courts, see who’s playing, show up. I built it in Flutter to move fast on both platforms with one codebase, and because basketball is the half of my off-the-clock life I actually wanted an app for. TODO(mattia): current status (live / in progress / paused) and public link if any.
Property rental app
iOS consultantGuest-facing iOS app for a property rental business, built as a consultant.
Guest-facing iOS app built as a consultant for a property rental business, covering the stay experience end to end. Came in as the senior iOS voice: architecture, native UI, and the usual quiet work of making a product feel calm in the user’s hand. TODO(mattia): product name, client name, public link (App Store) if shareable.
BPER mobile banking
iOS engineer (client work)Mobile banking client work for BPER, one of Italy's larger banks.
Client work on BPER’s mobile banking iOS app, contributing to a product used daily by a lot of people who very reasonably expect their bank app to just work. Spent time where banking apps really earn their keep: solid architecture, careful release discipline, and the boring kind of reliability. TODO(mattia): specific role (IC / lead / chapter), scope of the work, years involved.
Off the clock
When I’m not in Xcode, I’m usually on a surfboard or on a basketball court. Surf teaches me patience — you wait for the right set, you don’t argue with the ocean. Basketball handles the rest: pickup games, bad shots, good friends.
